In the past few years, I have read more books and articles on Iran than I would care to count (or admit here). Of all the writers I've come across on the topic, I would have to say my favorite is
Hooman Majd, an Iranian-American journalist and author. He published
The Ayatollah Begs to Differ, fascinating look at Iranian culture and politics, a few years ago and is coming out with a new book,
The Ayatollah's Democracy, this autumn. He has an amazing insight on the real Iran, as an American with an inside look and connection to the culture, and a deep understanding of the country's politicians and issues. His recent Foreign Policy article,
Postcard from Tehran, is a great look at how life in the Islamic Republic has changed (and stayed the same) since the election almost a year ago.
